Art classes in Norfolk

I run art classes and workshops in Norfolk and teach figure and portrait drawing, landscape painting, flowers and still life. I teach how to use charcoal, watercolour and oil paint. I can draw anything. That's because once you know how to use your eyes in that special way that shows you what you need to see, you'll be able to copy it down onto paper or canvas. Drawing is about knowing how to look at your subject and observing the essential features that you want to capture. I can teach this skill.

I think drawing is the essential skill that everyone needs to create pictures, whatever the subject. Drawing is not just the few lines you put down before you begin the painting. Every mark you make, in whatever medium, is an act of drawing. You need to know how to draw to gain control over your mark making and improve your painting skills.

I'm very good at teaching drawing. People are always saying to me that they can't draw and can't learn. But I find that when shown how to go about it properly, most people find that it really isn't that difficult. With some practice you will quickly gain in skill and confidence and see a big difference in your paintings as well.

Once you feel confident about drawing you'll be able to learn about colour, paint, palettes, tone and the lovely qualities of mark making. Playing with charcoal, oil and watercolour is much easier to learn than the basics of drawing.

Learn how to draw

Begins Saturday 15th February 2025. Six week course 2pm to 4pm in Sheringham

The course is suitable for beginners and for those wishing to improve their techniques. You’ll only need an A3 sketchpad and a pencil. We’ll draw still life objects and master keeping proportions and conveying perspective. When you understand these skills you’ll be ready to tackle anything! Get in touch for more details.
